Mind Body Infertility
Debra Sussman is the Executive Director of the Mind Body Institute for Infertility, founded at UCLA, specializing in reproductive counseling and pregnancy support. She is Harvard-trained and has been endorsed by reproductive endocrinologists & gynecologists since 2006.
About the Program
The Mind Body Institute for Infertility program was created to support individuals navigating the emotional, physical, and psychological impact of infertility. While medical treatments focus on the body, this program addresses the stress, anxiety, and sense of uncertainty that often accompany the fertility journey.
Rooted in mind–body medicine and modeled after programs developed at Harvard Medical School, the program helps participants feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to cope regardless of the path they choose moving forward. The goal is not to replace medical care, but to support it by strengthening overall wellbeing.
The Mind-Body Approach
This program is based on decades of research showing that stress and emotional health play a meaningful role in physical wellbeing, including reproductive health. The approach integrates evidence-based mind–body techniques, education, and group support to help regulate the nervous system and reduce the physiological effects of chronic stress.
Participants learn practical tools such as relaxation techniques, cognitive restructuring, and stress physiology education — while also benefiting from the shared experience of group support. The structure combines guided discussion, hands-on exercises, and ongoing clinical guidance, creating an environment that feels both educational and deeply human.
Outcomes & Benefits
Participants often report feeling calmer, more in control, and better equipped to handle the emotional demands of infertility. Clinical outcomes associated with mind–body programs include: reduced anxiety and depression, improved sleep, and fewer physical symptoms of stress such as fatigue, headaches, and tension
Research also shows that women who complete a structured mind–body infertility program experience higher pregnancy rates compared to those who do not participate.
